Global Recognition
Auckland Council has received a lot of global recognition for our plan and work we are doing to address our climate emergency.

C40 Innovator City membership
As a group of the world’s most ambitious cities tackling climate change, C40’s Innovator Cities have a distinct and important role in the C40 network, setting the most stringent standards for climate action. C40 Innovator cities do not meet the size criteria for C40 membership (urban agglomeration of 3 million or more by 2030) but are invited to join the C40 network thanks to their exceptional track record and climate leadership. As per C40 Terms of Reference, Innovator cities are required to demonstrate a higher activity level and global political leadership.
Climate Leader Coalition 2019 Statement signatory
We are a Climate Leader Coalition 2019 Statement signatory. The Climate Leaders Coalition launched a 2019 Statement in July 2019. To become a signatory an organisation pledges to reduce their emissions to contribute to New Zealand being carbon neutral by 2050 and much more.
New Zealand Spatial Excellence Awards
Our Conservation Information System 'Ruru' won the New Zealand Spatial Excellence award in 2021. The national award, open to all organisations, celebrates the highest achievement in spatial information and technology, recognising projects that help to resolve any issue in an environmental context. Ruru was developed by Auckland Council to centralise and standardise conservation and environmental data for easier access and visibility across the organisation.
Tree Cities of the World
Auckland has received Tree Cities of the World recognition for the past two years.
2021 CDP A List City
In 2021 Auckland received an A score, the highest rating for climate action. We were one of 95 cities worldwide that have made the 2021 A list.
